Section of granite flagged paving, extant 1882.
A section of paving making a pleasing, if largely inconspicuous visual statement in Crescent Quay. NOTE: Samuel Lewis (1837) gives an account of the conditions of the paving and streets of Wexford in the early nineteenth century by remarking that 'the streets are narrow, partially and indifferently paved, and not lighted; two attempts, made in 1830 and 1833, to bring the town within the provisions of the act of the 9th of George IV [Lighting etc. of Cities etc. (Ireland) Act 1828] for paving, lighting, and cleansing towns, failed; the proposal being each time rejected by a majority of a public meeting convened for its consideration' (Lewis 1837 II, 708).
