Description

Terraced two-bay three-storey with attic level house, built c.1840. Renovated, c.1990, with a traditional-style timber shopfront added. One of a pair with building to west (No.4) with a shared segmental-headed carriage-arch between. Pitched artificial slate roof having a projecting eaves course and with a brick chimneystack to west end gable. Rendered main façade with brick construction to the gable end. Square-headed openings with cut stone sills, replacement windows and modern external shutters. Round-headed doorcase to east end of modern shopfront. Road-fronted.

Appraisal

A substantial mid-terraced property, which was been heavily altered in recent years with the loss of much original fabric. The exposed brick gable suggests that this building is built in brick, which was subsequently rendered over. This building is an attractive feature on Connaught Street and adds to the varied roofline along this important routeway into Athlone from the west.
