|Categories of Special Interest||ARCHITECTURAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL|
|Original Use||castle/fortified house|
|In Use As||folly|| |
Detached three-bay three-storey former castle c.1550, now in use as a folly. The building is constructed in rubble fieldstone. The parapet is castellated and there are bartizans to each corner. The door and windows have a mixture of pointed-arched and flat-headed openings. The building is set within a circular walled garden close to the roadside. It was restored as a folly c.1800.
A well preserved late medieval tower. Follies invariably aped older structures, ironically this is in fact what it pretends to be, i.e. a castle ruin.
