Description

Detached single-bay single-storey gable-fronted forge, dated 1873, on a rectangular plan. The forge is constructed in part ashlar and part rubble granite. The sheeted double front doors are set within a decorative horseshoe-shaped opening. Window openings are flat-headed with casement windows. The pitched roof is finished with natural slate. The forge is slightly set back from the road adjacent to Aughrim Bridge.

Appraisal

This is a well preserved late Victorian forge which, radically different from the typical terraced buildings in Aughrim, adds variety and interest to the townscape.
