Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1915. Set into painted rendered, ruled and lined wall.
A discreet item of street furniture, contributing to the character of the streetscape of Poleberry Street. Of importance as an early example of mass-produced cast-iron, the evidence of a royal cipher confirms the historical significance of the piece as a tangible reminder of Ireland as part of British Empire. The surviving raised lettering enhances the artistic design quality of the composition.
