Description

End-of-terrace three-bay three-storey house, c.1750. Refenestrated, pre-1999. Pitched (shared) slate roof with clay ridge tiles, rendered (shared) chimney stack, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Unpainted rendered walls with cut-stone stringcourses to each floor. Square-headed window openings with cut-stone sills (forming sill courses to upper floors). Replacement uPVC casement windows, pre-1999, with decorative cast-iron sill guards to ground floor. Round-headed door opening with replacement glazed timber panelled door, c.1975, having spoked fanlight. Road fronted with flagged footpath to front.

Appraisal

A well-composed substantial house, forming the end piece of a neat group of four houses (22821139 - 42/WD-31-21-139 – 42), which retains its original form and some early fittings, including a fanlight to the door opening together with decorative cast-iron work to some window openings. However, the inappropriate replacement fittings to the window openings have not enhanced the external expression of the composition. Nevertheless, the house forms an appealing feature of formal appearance in the streetscape of Church Street.
