Terraced two-bay three-storey house with dormer attic, c.1820. Renovated, c.1895, with shopfront inserted to ground floor. Refenestrated, c.1995. One of a terrace of three. Hipped (shared) slate roof behind parapet with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stack, square rooflights, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Painted rendered walls with rendered cornice to parapet having blocking course over. Square-headed window openings with stone sills, and replacement uPVC casement windows, c.1995. Timber shopfront, c.1895, to ground floor with inscribed pilasters, fixed pane (two-light) timber display window, timber panelled and glazed timber panelled doors on three cut-stone steps having overlights, and fascia over with moulded cornice. Road fronted with concrete brick cobbled footpath to front.
An appealing, well-proportioned house, built as one of a terrace of three (with 22821037 – 38/WD-31-21-37 – 38), which retains its original form and massing. Of particular significance is the survival of an early timber shopfront to ground floor, which conforms to an Irish traditional model, and which is of artistic design merit. However, the inappropriate replacement fittings to the window openings do not enhance the external expression of the composition. The house, together with the remainder in the terrace, forms an elegant feature on the planned square.
