Painted rendered walls over mud wall construction (unpainted cement rendered walls to additional range). Square-headed window openings with stone sills, rendered surrounds, and 2/2 timber sash windows. Square-headed window openings to additional range (one in form of shallow bow) with concrete sills, and timber casement windows. Square-headed door opening with moulded rendered surround, keystone, and replacement glazed timber panelled door, c.1965. Square-headed door opening to additional range with glazed timber door. Set back from line of road in own grounds with gravel forecourt having roughcast boundary wall.
An appealing, well-composed, small-scale cottage, which makes a pleasant visual impact in the street scene of Dock Road. The cottage forms an integral component of the vernacular heritage of Dunmore East, as identified by features including the construction using mud, and the thatched roof, and is one of a group of thatched structures (including 22817032 – 38/WD-27-17-32 – 38) that are unique to the area, having been purpose-built as holiday homes representing an element of the development of the locality as a seaside village in the mid nineteenth century. The retention of important salient features and materials throughout significantly enhances the historic quality of the composition.
