Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1905, with inscribed “ER VII” royal cipher. Mounted into unpainted rendered boundary wall.
A discreet item of street furniture, which contributes to the streetscape quality of South Mall. The post box represents a good example of early-surviving mass-produced cast-iron work, while the raised elements enhance the design quality of the piece. The royal cipher and crown motif are of special interest as a tangible reminder of Ireland having been part of the British Empire.
