Single-arch wrought iron footbridge over canalised river, c.1880. Now disused. Wrought iron lattice parapets with wrought iron coping having round pedestrian arch to centre with wrought iron spike finials. Single shallow segmental arch with timber stepped deck over. Sited spanning canalised section of (Saint?) John’s River with cut-granite steps to north-west, and originally accessing Waterford Gas Works to south.
An elegant and decorative bridge, one of a pair in the immediate vicinity (including 22504553/WD-5632-22-553), which is now disused but which serves as evidence of the former Waterford Gas Works on site. The construction of the bridge using wrought iron is of technical interest, and the bridge forms an attractive, discreet feature in the locality.
