Terraced two-bay four-storey house, c.1850. Reroofed, c.1975. Refenestrated, c.2000. One of a terrace of four. Pitched (shared) roof with replacement artificial slate, c.1975, clay ridge tiles, rendered (shared) chimney stack, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered stepped eaves. Unpainted rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with stone sills. Replacement uPVC casement windows, c.2000. Elliptical-headed door opening with moulded rendered surround, timber panelled door and fanlight. Interior with lobby having decorative clay-tiled floor, timber wainscoting, and glazed timber panelled internal door with margins and overlight. Set back from line of road with forecourt having wrought iron railings on cut-limestone plinth.
This house, built as one of a terrace of four identical houses, is an attractive and well-proportioned substantial composition that retains its original balanced form. However, the inappropriate replacement fittings to the openings do not enhance the visual appeal of the building. The house, together with the remainder of the terrace (22504385 – 6, 8/WD-5632-22-401 – 400, 398), forms an important component of the streetscape, set back slightly from the line of the road, and the survival of the original iron railings contributes to the historic character of the group.
