Description

Cast-iron wall-mounted post box, c.1930, with P&T and Saorstát Éireann emblems. Set into boundary wall of former bishop's palace

Appraisal

The traditional Gaelic script of the lettering on this well-crafted post box was employed for many public uses in the Free State period in Ireland. It is a relatively rare survival on post boxes. This post box forms part of an unusual group of three fine large wall-mounted post boxes in Cashel.
