Description

Detached two-storey constabulary barrack, c.1810, with central three bays flanked by pair of projecting three-sided bows. Ashlar limestone walls to ground floor with brick surrounds to windows, brick walls above with limestone quoins. Replacement timber sash windows. Round-headed doorway with radial fanlight. Hipped slate roof with two brick chimney stacks. Granite gate piers to street with plinth wall and later railings. Extensively refurbished and extended to rere, late 1980s.

Appraisal

A handsome Garda station which, despite comprehensive refurbishment, retains its original aspect to the street. Also preserves the off-set building line of this group, and closes the vista south along main street.
