Appraisal
This aqueduct, which carries the Grand Canal over the Tullamore River, is a reminder of the engineering achievements of the late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-centuries. This section of the canal was opened in 1804. The detailing to the plaque, the arches and the stone cutwaters hightlight this aqueduct as a significant feature within the riverscape. It is one of three such aqueducts along the County Offaly stretch of the Grand Canal. It was named after Joseph Huband, a director in the Gand Canal Company around the time of the bridge's erection. |
