Description
Triple-arch masonry bridge, built c.1790, carrying the Croghan road over the Little Brosna River. Random rubble stonework. V-shaped concrete cutwaters upstream and downstream. Arches of semicircular profile. Soffits are gunited. Riverbank accessed by stone steps. Modern railings mounted on upstream parapet.

Appraisal

Located on the boundary of Birr demesne, this bridge is simple in design and construction. Linking Counties Offaly and Tipperary, it carries traffic to and from Birr, thus performing a social and economic function by facilitating the transport of people and goods.
