Original Usemill (wind)
Ruinous and roofless remains of freestanding round-plan windmill, built c.1870. Rubble stone walls, tapering inwards, now largely collapsed. Door openings to south-east and north-west elevations. Stands on hill in pasture land.

While strong evidence of milling and industrial activity can be seen in County Monaghan, windmills are infrequent, making this example all the more significant for its rarity. Probably employed for flax milling, its is an important reminder of the industrial heritage of the county. Already ruinous by the Ordnance Survey of 1908, it is nonetheless a notable eye-catcher in the landscape, as it is prominently sited at a height.
