Freestanding round-plan two-stage windmill, c.1750, now roofless. Random rubble limestone walls, battered at base. Square-headed loop-type apertures with rubble stone lintels, and no fittings. Two opposed square-headed door openings, both fitted with metal doors. Set in public park atop hill overlooking the north end of Carrickmacross.
This windmill is typical of those of the mid-eighteenth century, with a cylindrical form, thick walls and narrow slit windows. It is also of historical interest in demonstrating the former importance of cereal growing in this locality. It is a familiar local landmark and one of the few windmills in County Monaghan.
