Description

Wall-mounted round-topped cast-iron post box, erected c.1940, with raised 'P&T' monogram in Gaelic letters on door, latter with rounded edges. Set in square-plan smooth rendered pier of garden wall.

Appraisal

The modest form of this box is enhanced by the simple and well executed raised lettering. The use of Gaelic lettering was common on public structures in post-Independence Ireland. It is located adjacent to a former smithy, which would have been a focal point for the local community. The postbox is still in use today.
