Description

Detached three-bay single-storey house with attic accommodation, built c.1880, with gabled porch. Now also in use as public house. Hipped thatched roof with brick chimneystack. Rendered and roughcast rendered walls. Timber sash windows. Modern flat-roofed extension to rear.

Appraisal

A good example of a vernacular thatched house. Utilising traditional local materials, thatched structures were once commonly found all over Ireland but are now becoming increasingly rare. The building is an interesting addition to the streetscape, while the survival of many original features and materials enhance the original form.
