Description

Detached three-bay single-storey thatched house, built c.1850, with a projecting central entrance porch. Square-headed window openings with timber sash windows. Pitched thatch roof with rendered chimneystack. Modern extension to the rear. The front site is enclosed by a cement rendered wall.

Appraisal

An good example of a vernacular thatched house. Utilising traditional local materials, thatched structures were once commonly found all over Ireland but are now becoming increasingly rare. This house and the two other thatched houses on the same road to the west, form an interesting group of vernacular dwellings.
