Round-headed window openings, buff brick voussoirs, stone sills, painted timber multiple-paned fixed panes. Square-headed door opening infilled. Corrugated metal sheeted shed, attached to south. Appraisal

The establishment of the Great Northern Railway Company required the development of railway works to maintain and manufacture rolling stock. The railway works were designed by chief engineer to the company, W.H. Mills, and built in Belfast brick. This former shunting yard is a reminder of the industrial heritage of Dundalk. Trains, apparently including the British Queen's carriage, were built on site. Hinkel cars were built also built on site in the 1960s. The utilitarian structure is enhanced by the use of polychromatic brickwork and is fine window detailing.
