Description

Cloone Roman Catholic graveyard, established c.1840. Variety of nineteenth- and twentieth-century grave markers. Random stone boundary walls with limestone coping. Foundations of the former Roman Catholic Church, St. Mary's, to west. Squared random stone entrance piers with pyramidal caps and cast-iron gates with spearheads.

Appraisal

Although St Mary's is demolished the graveyard and gate piers have survived, preserving a part of the social and religious history of Cloone. The ironwork of the gates is of artistic merit and the intricate detailing of the gate heads enhances the aestheticl appearance of the site.
