Description

Gateway to parochial house, built c.1860. Comprises flat-panelled ashlar sandstone piers with decorative pointed caps and cast-iron gates. Sweeping random coursed stone walls terminate at square-profiled piers. Rounded piers to flanking walls with concrete coping. Mill stone and stone stoup inserted into wall.

Appraisal

This gateway is a fine example of skilled craftsmanship and is of technical significance. The combination of ashlar sandstone piers, moulded capstones and decorative cast-iron gates lends an architectural quality to the entrance making this site a notable feature of the streetscape.
