Description

Single-arch rubble stone road bridge over river, c.1800. Random rubble stone walls with rubble stone (vertical course) coping to parapets. Single segmental arch with squared rubble stone voussoirs, and rubble stone soffits. Sited spanning tributary of Pill River with grass banks to river.

Appraisal

Exhibiting a traditional construction in unrefined rubble stone with barely-refined dressings a small-scale bridge representing an element of the late eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century civil engineering or transport heritage makes an appealing, if subtle impression in the townscape of Piltown.
