Description

Carriageway, c.1850, comprising pair of cut-stone piers with elliptical arch over having cut-stone voussoirs and section of rubble stone boundary wall to south-west. Tongue-and-groove timber panelled double doors.

Appraisal

This carriageway is an attractive, if subtle, feature on the streetscape of Mill Lane. The construction of the arch that has retained its original shape is of technical or engineering merit. The cut-stone work to the piers and voussoirs is a good example of the high quality of stone masonry traditionally practised in the locality.
