Description

Detached four-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c.1800, having recent uPVC porch to front elevation. Pitched reed thatched roof having decoratively scolloped ridge, and painted rendered low chimneystack. Painted smooth rendered walls throughout. Square-headed window openings having decorative render surrounds and painted sills with replacement uPVC windows. Square-headed door opening having timber battened door. Recent pedestrian gate set into painted rendered boundary wall and piers.

Appraisal

The low elevation, thick walls and small openings are typical of the vernacular tradition in Ireland. Once common throughout the country, thatched buildings have become increasingly rare and this building retains other notable features such as its low chimneystack.
