Description

Freestanding cast-iron "pillar box" post box, extant 1984, with "P7T [Posts and Telegraphs]" monogram. Set on cobbled footpath.

Appraisal

A "pillar box" post box supplied by Carron Company (established 1759) of Stirlingshire representing an interesting example of mass-produced cast-iron work making a pleasing, if largely inconspicuous visual statement in an urbanised village street scene with embellishments identifying the artistic potential of the composition including the Cló Gaelach or "Old Irish Lettering" defining the monogram of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs (fl. 1924-84).
