Pitched M-profile slate and artificial slate roofs, with red brick chimneystacks having corbelled polychrome brick cornices, and corbelled polychrome eaves course. Red brick walls laid in Flemish bond having decorative sawtooth course to first floor sill level. Rendered walls to south elevation. Segmental-headed window openings having yellow and black brick voussoirs, cut granite sills, continuous sill courses to bay windows, timber sash windows, and replacement uPVC windows. Round-headed entrance openings having chamfered brick piers, hood mouldings and dropped brick keystones. Recessed square-headed openings with timber doorcases and cornices, sidelights, overlights and timber panelled doors, approached by cut granite entrance steps, some with tiled platforms. Some encaustic tile front garden paths. Front gardens enclosed by cast-iron railings on cut granite plinths, with matching pedestrian gates.

Appraisal

This terrace retains its early form and character, and fabric including timber sash windows, timber doorcases and cast-iron railings. The decorative brick details give colourful relief to the red brick elevations, while the bay windows and recessed entrances articulate the individual houses. The front garden boundaries remain intact, maintaining the early suburban character of the streetscape. This area was developed by private developers who built small groups of houses at a time, and the proceeds from one group were used to finance the construction of the next section of terrace. As a result there are pleasing variations in a street of similar houses.
