Terrace of twelve two-bay single-storey houses, built c.1875, having single-storey returns and later extensions to rear (west). M-profile pitched slate and artificial slate roofs having parapet with cut granite capping supported by yellow brick corbels to front elevation. Red brick chimneystacks having sawtooth cornices and clay chimney pots. Red brick walls laid in Flemish bond to front elevations. Rendered walls to north gable. Segmental-headed window openings having chamfered brick reveals, cut granite sills, one-over-one and two-over-two timber sash windows, and replacement uPVC windows. Round-headed door openings having chamfered red brick reveals, some painted timber door surrounds having carved brackets, plain fanlights, timber panelled doors, and replacement uPVC doors. Some recessed door openings, with replacement uPVC doors to front. Front gardens enclosed by cast-iron railings on cut granite plinths, with recent pedestrian gates.
This terrace retains much of its Victorian form and character, and fabric including cast-iron railings and timber sash windows. The repetition of the same house type gives a pleasing coherence to the street. Subtle brick detailing adds decorative interest to the front elevations. Front garden boundaries remain intact, maintaining the early suburban character of the streetscape. Greenville Terrace was developed when large tracts of land became available following the sale of the Greenville demesne in the 1870s. The new residential streets provided housing for tradespeople and skilled workers of the city.
