Description

Round-plan wrought-iron turnstile, c.1850, having round-section bars to turnstile mechanism and square-section vertical bars to outside. Floor of turnstile is granite flags. Roughly squared granite quoins to opening jambs and granite lintel, set into rubble limestone walling, with cow and calf coping stones. Turnstile flanked by buttresses. Set into boundary wall of Phoenix Park.

Appraisal

This pedestrian entrance to Phoenix Park gives access from Chapelizod village. Its simple metal construction is complemented by the well-constructed limestone and granite work of the opening in the wall.
