Description

Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, erected c.1880, having moulded surround, aperture with moulded base, opening with information panel, lock and pull-handle and bearing lettering 'Post Office' in relief. Set within rendered pier at roadside.

Appraisal

This simple post-box is a interesting artifact of mass-produced cast-iron work that was probably made at the Carron Company foundry in Stirlingshire. It is unusual in not having a monogram, although this may have be removed after Independence in 1922.
