Description

Single-arch road-bridge, built c.1850, spanning Blackwater River. Abutment walls and soffit of squared and coursed stone, segmental arch ring of smooth regular voussoirs, square coursed spandrel walls and parapet, low square-edged coping to parapet with punched dressing and square parapet ends.

Appraisal

A well-executed stone road bridge, set in a prominent open-landscape location, that is an excellent example of the high quality masonry and design of nineteenth century civil engineering transportation projects. It replaced an earlier bridge that was not aligned with the approach roads. It adds significantly to the character of its rural setting.
