Description

Detached three-bay single-storey gate lodge, built c.1850. Having flat-roofed extension to rear (west). Pitched slate roof with yellow brick chimneystack, timber bargeboards to gable ends, cast-iron rainwater goods with uPVC downpipe. Rubble stone walls. Square-headed window openings with rendered surrounds and sills having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door opening having raised rendered surround and timber panelled door. Square-profile roughly dressed stone gate piers having concrete cappings, flanking wrought-iron gates. Located to roadside.

Appraisal

These entrance gates and gate lodge mark the approach to Beechmount House. The gate lodge forms part of a charming group with the crenellated tower which flanks the other side of the gate. Together they form part of a larger group of demesne structures relating to the main house.
