Description

Corner-sited end-of-terrace two-bay two-storey house with dormer attic and curved façade, built c.1780, now in use as shop. Pitched, hipped and curved slate roof having rebuilt red brick chimneystacks, cast-iron rainwater goods and dormer window. Rendered walls, having base batter to rear (west) elevation. Square-headed opening to first floor, having six-over-six timber sliding sash windows with stone sills. Curved window to end bay. Altered to ground floor with insertion of display window and glazed door. Slate fringing set above shopfront. Timber door to rear, approached by concrete steps.

Appraisal

A delightful building which makes the most of its corner site location. Set at the junction of Main Street and Upper O'Connell street, it occupies a prominent site. Its quirky form, slender profile and base batter mark it out in the streetscape. Its curved plot line is apparent not only in the walls but also in the roof structure and the first floor glazing.
