Description

Attached two-bay three-storey former house, built c.1820, recently altered to ground floor, now in use as retail outlet. Pitched slate roof having rendered chimneystack and cast-iron rainwater goods. Lined-and-ruled rendered wall to first and second floors having render quoins. Recent concrete brick to ground floor. Exposed rubble stone masonry to gable (north). Camber-headed window openings with render sills, render block-and-start surrounds and six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed window openings with fixed timber-framed display windows and square-headed door opening with timber battened door to ground floor.

Appraisal

This building's scale and form is in keeping with the buildings in the commercial centre, which contribute to the character and sense of prosperity in the town. Though altered at ground floor level the slightly oversailing eaves course and camber-headed timber sliding sash windows add to its traditional character.
