Description

Single-span cast-iron foot bridge, erected c. 1890. Corinthian-style columns supporting landing, span and straight flight stairs. Stairs comprising ornate balusters, square-profile banisters with ball finials and risers with lozenge and quatrefoil motifs. Spandrels to landings having foliate and floral motifs. Foundry plaque to south landing.

Appraisal

Well proportioned, highly decorative cast-iron bridge, made in the Scottish foundry of George Smith & Co. Sun Foundry Glasgow. The foot bridge forms part of a group of related structures with the nearby station and shelter.
