Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, erected c.1880, with V.R. insignia to the top of the box and manufacturer's label to base, reading 'WT Allen & Co. London'. Set in red brick surround to rubble stone wall.
This post box, with its Queen Victoria monogram, is a reminder of the time when Ireland formed part of the British Empire. It is an interesting physical reminder of Ireland's colonial past, and is a small but excellently designed example of high quality mass produced cast-iron in the nineteenth century.
