Appraisal

This cast-iron post box forms an attractive addition to the streetscape. The insignia demonstrates the artistic qualities of mass production at the time of its casting. Such post boxes are becoming increasingly rare and are now often replaced by plastic boxes. It was erected during the reign of George V (1910-1921) and is a reminder of Ireland's colonial past.
