Description

Cast-iron wall-mounted post box, c.1890, with V.R. insignia and raised crown motif. Rectangular aperture and display panel.

Appraisal

This post box, with its Queen Victoria monogram, is a reminder of the time when Ireland formed part of the British Empire. It is an interesting physical reminder of Ireland's colonial past, and is a small but excellently designed example of high quality mass produced nineteenth century cast-iron.
