Description

Corner-sited end-of-terrace two-bay four-storey former house, built c. 1830, as a pair with the adjoining former house to the south. Now in use as hair salon. Hipped slate roof with red brick chimneystack. Rendered walls with moulded render surrounds to first floor and second floor openings. Timber sash windows to first floor, with blocked openings to upper floors. Replacement shopfront, c.1980, with timber fixed windows and timber glazed door.

Appraisal

Built as a pair with the adjoining former house to the south, this pair makes a notable and positive addition to the streetscape, due to the scale and form of the pair. Though many interesting features and materials have been replaced, this building is enhanced by the retention of the decorative moulded render surrounds and timber sash windows. The pair occupies a notable position in the streetscape, as it closes the vista at the east end of Castle Street.
