Detached multiple-bay opera house, built c. 1965, altered c. 2000 with glazed addition to east elevation, and windows insertions to north elevation. Split concrete block walls, with ashlar limestone cladding to 2000 addition. Flat roof with fly tower.

Cork Opera House was designed by architect Michael Scott, and is the second opera house to stand on this site. Built in the 1960s, this building replaced a mid nineteenth century building which was destroyed by fire in 1955. Though altered in 2000 and with the Scott façade removed, the interior and particularly the auditorium retains much of the original form and design.
