Description

Pair of terraced two-bay three-storey houses, built c. 1880, now disused and with vacant retail outlets to ground floor. Pitched slate roof with red brick chimneystacks. Rendered walls with eaves course and having string course at sill level of first floor. Render shopfronts comprising of render pilasters with capitals, flanking fixed timber windows and timber panelled doors and toplights, having fascia and cornice above. Timber sash windows to upper floors, having raised render surrounds to first floor windows.

Appraisal

This pair of former houses makes a notable and positive addition to the streetscape, due to the scale and form of the buildings. The pair is enhanced by the render detail, which articulates the regular form of the buildings. The simple render shopfronts are a notable feature of the building. The buildings retains many interesting features and materials, such as the slate roofs, timber sash windows and timber panelled doors.
