Description

Detached three-bay single-storey former gate lodge, built c.1880, with return to the rear, now in use as private dwelling. Pitched tile roofs with ashlar limestone chimneystack. Snecked limestone walls. Dressed stone outbuildings to the site. Bounded by rubble stone boundary walls.

Appraisal

This gate lodge forms part of an interesting group of Loughcrew demesne-related structures, with the Ionic portico, workers' houses, church, stables, graveyard and gate lodges. The snecked limestone masonry of the building was clearly executed by skilled craftsmen. The related outbuildings and boundary walls enhance the setting of the former gate lodge.
