Pairs of square-profile limestone ashlar gate piers with carved limestone cap stones, c.1765, linked by limestone plinth walls surmounted by original wrought-iron railings. Terminating square-headed pedestrian openings with wrought-iron gates. Coursed rubble stone wall with limestone coping links the gates to the bridge to south. Modern double gates.
This entrance gate forms an interesting group of mill related structures, with the mill, mill house, water channels and gate lodge. This entrance gate is an impressive entrance to this former industrial site, and is a notable addition to the streetscape in Slane. The ashlar masonry utilised in the construction of this entrance was clearly executed by skilled craftsmen.
