Description

Terraced building, built 1901, comprising two-storey two-bay block with projecting double-height gable-fronted end-bay to east. Recent yellow-brick extension to east and rear (north) elevation. M-plan slate roof to main block, hipped and set perpendicular to street, having terracotta ridge tiles and red brick chimneystacks with clay pots, one abutting west elevation. Roof hidden behind shaped parapet wall having moulded sandstone coping. Cast-iron rainwater goods to east elevation. Pitched slate roof to end bay, hidden behind shaped gable with moulded sandstone coping. Red brick walls laid in Flemish bond having moulded sandstone string courses to base of parapet, continuous hood-moulding to ground floor openings of front elevation, moulded brick sill course to projecting bay and to first floor of recessed bay, and continuous moulded sill to recessed bay. Brick plinth course with sandstone coping. Sandstone moulded coat-of-arms to parapet of main block, sandstone fascia having moulded surrounds, segmental-headed lintel cornice, and carved lettering 'CORONER'S COURT' to end bay at parapet level. Gauged-brick basket-arched window openings to first floor to front, with chamfered surrounds and single-pane timber sliding sash windows. Paired gauged brick round-headed window openings to ground floor having chamfered surrounds, moulded sill and single-pane timber sliding sash windows. Tripartite gauged brick round-headed window opening to end bay with single-pane windows having stained-glass panels. Gauged brick three-centred-arch door opening to front with moulded red brick surround. Timber doorcase comprising timber surround with engaged fluted pilasters on plinth bases having fluted consoles and moulded lintel supporting timber fascia with scrolled surround flanking rectangular name-plate panel surmounted by moulded cornice. Coloured glass fanlight and sidelight panels on panelled timber riser flanking door. Square-headed double-leaf timber panelled door. Door opens onto nosed granite step. Court to interior having timber battened panel to lower half of wall, rendered to upper walls. Exposed timber beams to ceiling with glazed rooflight panels, moulded masonry cornice and console brackets. Timber architrave surrounds, panelled timber doors and panels over doors. Semi-circular window opening to rear (north) elevation of room with spoked fanlight. Moulded masonry coat-of-arms to wall. Moulded render cornices to ceiling to reception hall, jury room and former reception hall. Timber architrave surrounds and glazed timber panelled doors. Original tiled floor to former reception hall.
