Features
Principal Building Early Victorian house, c.1840, by Thomas Duff, burnt in 1921 and now gone. Stone used for a church in Glasdrummond, Co. Armagh.
Historic/Cultural Association Fortesque, Dixon
Water Flurry River runs north-south throughout. Very large 'Fish Pond' on 1836 map, gone by mid 19th century.
Ornamental Garden Buildings South lodge, pre 1836, in good condition. West lodge, pre 1862, converted and in good condition.
Walls/Boundaries West boundary formed by new motorway. Small section of stone demesne wall at south end.
Outbuildings Fine granite stable block, post 1836, possibly by Duff, in good condition.
Ornamental Grounds & Gardens Gone.
Productive Gardens Large complex of walled gardens, all disused. Stone walls with inner brick in some sections. Remains of glasshouse bases, box, fruit trees and wall fruit.
Woodland Very large plantation on either side of the valley, now Coillte forest. Remains of shelter belt by the Flurry River, deciduous and coniferous trees and some exotics.
Access Routes Internal route (now public road), access from north and south.
Farmland Fields in the valley and to the north in the area of the former house, in use.
Plants/ Plant Collections Mature exotic trees in vicinity of site of house.
Productive Garden Buildings Were several small buildings, all ruinous or gone.
Other Features 'Mountain Lodge', pre 1836, in woods. 'Old Wood' on the side of Black Mountain, now ruinous (not seen). 'Marble Bridge', mid 19th century, cut stone, in good condition. Former Deer Park east of house area. with School house.
